How did the 2025 inaugural go?

Well enough that it won the Eurobodalla Outstanding Visitor Experience Award before the year was out.

The 2025 event ran 22–26 October. Destination NSW reported 5,785 unique attendees — 3,300 overnight visitors and 1,987 from the Eurobodalla region itself — with visitor expenditure exceeding $5 million. On the racing side: over 1,875 entries across the disciplines, 500+ kids through the Rocky Trail Academy and Flipper Racing programs, and 170 brands at the expo.

The Mogo network at that point had been fully open for about three months after the July 2025 official opening. What riders found was that the gravity zones in particular held up well under event pressure, and the sheer range of terrain — from legitimate green flow in the lower zones to committing double-black jump lines near the summit — gave the race organisers room to spread the program across multiple venue styles.

For 2026, the organisers had a full year of data to work with. The result is an expanded race program, more brands, and a better-understood logistics picture between the Batemans Bay hub and the Mogo Trails network.

When does Sea Otter Australia 2026 actually run?

The five-day festival has two phases:

21–23 October — Sea Otter Summit and early racing. The industry summit (brands, media, trade buyers, coaching and product launches) runs across the first three days. Junior and groms racing also sits in this window via Rocky Trail Academy and Flipper Racing. If you're there purely for the main race weekend and expo, Thursday 22 or Friday 23 is when you want to arrive.

23–25 October — Main festival (Fri–Sun). The full race program, full expo floor, and general public access. This is the busy part. Book accommodation for Thursday night at a minimum and assume shuttle bookings at Mogo are sold out if you haven't already sorted them.

Sea Otter Australia runs one of the widest discipline spreads of any Australian MTB event, with age brackets from U17 through to Grandmaster 60+ across most categories. The headline race is the Fox Superflow — Sea Otter's signature timed-enduro format — but the program goes much further.

What's at the Hanging Rock expo?

The Event Hub at Hanging Rock Recreational and Sports Precinct is where 200+ brands set up for the festival weekend. Demo fleets are the headline: you can ride bikes before committing to anything, which is the actual reason to walk the expo slowly rather than rushing through it.

The 2025 floor had 170 brands. The 2026 expansion adds another 30-odd. Product launches, seasonal deals, brand activations, and — for the younger crew — a separate kids zone that keeps children occupied long enough for adults to actually look at things. The Rocky Trail Academy and Flipper Racing programs that pulled 500+ kids through the 2025 event give families a structured reason to be there rather than just being dragged along.

The hub is in central Batemans Bay, roughly 10 km from the main Mogo trailhead. The two venues don't collide — they complement each other. Most people do expo mornings and trail afternoons, or full trail days bracketed by hub sessions before and after. You need a car or shuttle to get between them efficiently.

How do you get from Batemans Bay to the Mogo Trails?

The Hanging Rock Precinct is on Clyde Street, central Batemans Bay. Getting to the trails:

Self-shuttling works if you have a group with multiple cars — three trailheads at different elevations means you can position cars and link descent laps without a commercial operator. It takes logistics but avoids shuttle queues.

Where to stay for Sea Otter Australia 2026

Book now. Batemans Bay has solid accommodation but it fills fast on any October weekend, and this isn't just any October weekend.

Official Sea Otter Village: The NRMA Batemans Bay Holiday Resort operates as the designated accommodation partner. Absolute beachfront position, 10 minutes walk from the Hanging Rock Event Hub. Cabins and powered sites book through the Sea Otter Australia accommodation portal at seaotter.au/accommodation — this is the closest thing to staying inside the event.

Batemans Bay town: Hotels, motels and holiday apartments cluster along the Princes Highway and esplanade. Walking distance or a short drive to Hanging Rock. The esplanade options go earliest; motel stock on the highway side holds a bit longer.

Mogo village: A handful of B&Bs and self-contained options in the township itself, three minutes from the main trailhead. Logical if you want to be at the trails at first light rather than hustling from Batemans Bay, and it lets you walk to coffee before the first descent.

Planning the trip: a few things worth knowing

Race entries are separate. Each discipline has its own registration. If you're riding the Superflow and the Enduro, enter both individually. Entry registration includes full festival and expo access for all five days, so you're not paying again for the hub.

Spectator entry is a separate ticket. Non-racing friends and family buy daily expo passes via the Sea Otter Australia site. This has been straightforward in the past but sell-out capacity has been reached on busy days — don't leave it to the weekend of.

Mogo shuttle capacity is finite. Southbound Escapes will run extra session times during Sea Otter, but they'll fill. Book when your race registration is confirmed.

Fire risk in October. Mogo State Forest sits under Forestry Corporation NSW closure powers on extreme fire-danger days. October is shoulder season — mostly fine — but check FC NSW alerts and Rural Fire Service advisories before heading out, especially if the lead-up week has been dry and windy.
